The big USA trip 2014

Post by ozbilt »

Mustang 50th Birthday bash in Charlotte NC, followed by the Route 66 trip & a few extra surprises .......

As a preview, read this thread ...... http://www.mustangtech.com.au/Forums/vi ... =3114.html

I am now putting a trip together, to see if there is any interest in a run from Los Angeles to Charlotte NC for the event there (it will be the big one IMO) then onto Washington DC, Dearborn for the Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, then onto Chicago for the start of Route 66 all the way back to Los Angeles to get back on the plane to Australia.

I am proposing to do the lower USA run to Charlotte first & Route 66 after to try for the better weather. April is a fickle time in the US for weather related events, so expect sunshine in CA then snow storms in Arizona & New Mexico & maybe all the way through Oklahoma. If we are lucky, we will be able to get to see a lot of the US on this trip, if the weather turns to crap, we will have an alternate plan to go to Florida & see the sights there before returning to LA.

I will post more as the plan(s) take shape.

Plan on at least 4 - 5 weeks away.

Lordy, Lordy, Lordy. Sounds like the trip of a lifetime. I'll work towards it, can't commit now but I'm definitely keen.

If you put this in the calendar, there is actually a "Count me in" button where people can show that they are going.

Now in the calendar. However the dates are subject to change as the event gets closer & I lock in venues.

Here is a link to it:

You can use the "Count me in" button on the right hand side to show your interest. That will give Kerry an idea of numbers at a glance for now.

Perhaps I'm not holding my tongue the right way.
Count me in button just brings up a "Script called without required parameter(s)"

Script called without the required parameter(s).

I suppose thats what "count me in" means

NC. We can house everyone and all cars (up to 35)
FL. We can house everyone and all cars under cover (up to 65ppl) Cars up to 100

If anyone buys a car and wants to store it untill the event in either FL, GA, TX, PA, LA or NC I can help arrange it.

If anyone wants to drive a 2010 F150 King ranch with an enclosed 24 foot trailer as a support vehicle...put your hands up now

We allready have a few clients from Oz coming over and staying with us during the event so why not T it all up now and hook up with everyone

Anyone wanting to ship your own personal car from Oz to LA, let me know in advance and I can put together a club package with our shipping company

Matt, this trip I am putting together will be a full tour that involves only rental cars. I do not have the time or resources to be looking after old cars on a run around the USA. Rental cars are easy, if one craps itself, we swap it out. We will be renting from one major chain that can provide backup when needed.

Old car runs (& I have been on many in the US & Australia) mean that the trip is slower (so needing more time & therefore expense) plus the logistics of carrying spare parts on a couple of trucks & trailers. Also making sure we have people that are capable of fixing breakdowns on the road. Those trips I have done, in that form, involved cars that had been prepared by their owners over a long period of time & they knew their cars, not something that had just been purchased with an "unknown history".

I always ran "sweep" on the Mustangs Across America trips as I was part of the group capable of repairing cars. We drove at the back of the group to pick up breakdowns & there were many of them.

I also will only be presenting the package "as is", so meet in the start city as a group & commence from there. I cannot having people join in at differing times as that is too hard to organize.
