loud throaty exhaust??
Hi guys,
I currently have EFI,5L with engine in my 67 coupe as well as headers, i had to put on cat convertors to meet engineering requirements in NSW.
The exhaust is now not so loud or throaty as it was before.
It's currently running 2.25 inch exhaust system, H pipe not sure what brand.
I was wondering what muffler can i change to, so that it will give me that deep rumble when idling? at the moment it is very quite when idling, only roars when it goes past 3000rpm.
I understand the legal limit is 90db at 4000rpm in new
I was thinking flowmaster or magnaflo series??
Nick

Re: loud throaty exhaust??
What cats did you put on it?
There are some high flow ones made these days.

Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Or you can make them hi-flow with a rod and hammer.
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
i have magnaflo hi flo cats installed
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Get some of those flowmaster 40's they are pretty loud I think.
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Metallic or ceramic?? Do you have the magnaflow part number for them??nick069 wrote:i have magnaflo hi flo cats installed
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Never leave them open / empty. Always put a pipe through them if you take out the biscuit (ceramic). Highly illegal anyway. If you have the ceramic cats they are probably a 300 to 400 cellShaunp wrote:Or you can make them hi-flow with a rod and hammer.

i have metallic 200cell
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
You would have paid through your arse for the Magnaflow cats. Twin system or single?
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Twin, got the just under $300 for both from a place in qld. another $300 to put them in
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Can you sit comfortably yet? There is a wide choice of mufflers too choose from. Use a muffler that is fibreglass packed & straight through. Flowmaster's are loud as most of them only have direction deflector plates. Magnflow, Redback, Lukey are all good. I use Dynamax VTX mufflers, no droning but have full noise & flow. At least I can hear my stereo comfortably. Great for driving long distances. You didn't state what brand or type of headers you are using.
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Not sure of the brand of headers I'm guessing pace maker?
I I've read flo master 40 series or magnaflo is the way to go.
I don't want drone or too much cabin noise.

Re: loud throaty exhaust??
Flow masters drone like hell. Magnaflow is better. Dynamax VTX hardly any drone. Everyone has their idea of 'a nice note' Just because it may be loud doesn't mean it goes 'fast' or is efficient. Look at the ricers on the road. Okay if you're as deaf as a post!
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
i just checked the brand of the mufflers, and they are called 'power flo' Anyone use them on their cars?
Re: loud throaty exhaust??
I run Magna Flow "2.5 on my twin system and its loud ( at full noise ).
103db @ 4500rpm.
I believe they breathe better..
Not too much cabin noise on cruise.
