67 Fastback - attempt number two!

Post by rockerfella »

Well I've been keeping it under wraps for a little while now, but figure since work is about to get underway, I may as well let the cat (or pony as the case may be) out of the bag.

Behold! My in-need-of-a-little-love-that's-why-it-went-straight-to-steve C code fastback.

Image

Doesn't look too shabby, huh? Well it's a good angle and a good photo. You can't see the grand canyon sized caps that mostly occupy the drivers door, or the kink in the rails, or the questionable techniques used to put in the new floorpan, among other things. Setting aside these gripes, I don't think it's too bad. Interior is very tidy, with a new deluxe dash and pretty good seats and trim as far as I could see.

Has a nice sounding 302, which Steve has assured me doesn't leak, so that'll be a first for me!

The plan is to play it a bit by ear. Get it on the rack and straighten it out, and see what that does to the paint, then pending not-too-bad results, give it a bit of a spray (in something similar to my old 69) and chuck some stripes on it. Oh, and do the RHD conversion. Didn't mind the LHD on the last 67, but just feel that much more comfortable driving on the correct side of the road, and not having to carry a stick to poke at the odd parking ticket machine I may need to go through.

However, Steve has prepared me for the worst case scenario, that the unusual amount of bog under the car may crack under the strain of the car being tugged around, and may possibly reveal things I don't want to know about, in which case I may take the plunge and just have the whole thing pulled apart and start from scratch. Fingers crossed for the best though!

Anyway, apologies for the lack of details about the car, but I'm mostly just excited to be back in the game after a brief timeout where I realised that I can't really be without a Mustang anymore.

More details and photos as they come, and further apologies to everyone else who has a car at St Mary's for adding another to what appears to be a veritable army of Mustangs currently being worked on there!

Good luck with the project, at least you've gone in with eyes wide open.

Saw it on the hoist last time I was their Rockerfella. I hope it works out for you mate but once that paint is stripped you never know. I like your attitude though and if it is straight and minimal rust then you are laughing. Cross fingers mate.

Yeah it's not bad hey. Will have to assess once it's all square. The jury is still out on the stripes too. Decisions, decisions :impatient:

I'm not too fussed about driving a car that's got some bog, so long as it's not bogged up the wazzoo, or being held together by the stuff, it doesn't really phase me, so here's hoping I can get away with it the cheap way until things get to dire later on down the track.

Nice looking car - the first photo makes it look fantastic.
I am sure all its secrets will be reviled once Steve as had a play with it.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

I'm sure this car has plenty of secrets, and quite frankly, if it's willing to keep them, I don't mind. But since we're on secrets, Steve, no I haven't jumped off that bridge yet!

Just need a moment when she's in a good mood so she can get angry, as opposed to telling her when she's in a bad mood and gets furious. Because I like my genitals in their current location - her purse, it would seem.

Welcome back to reality!! (Mustangs, rust and bog).
I saw it there when I picked up my Tupperware.
Hmm...is yours first or my bluey first on the car-o-liner?
I'm in the same boat mate...hoping, actually, praying for the best.
