69 Firebird question

Post by ozbilt »

Does anyone here have access to a 69 Firebird/Camaro LH draglink?

Even a pic with measurements will do, better still if still in the car for a pic. What I am after is the overall length (center to center of the end hole/pin) & the distance between the tie rod locating holes.

67 - 8 Camaro is the same suspension, so any of the 3 years will work.

I have a RH drive 69 Firebird, here at Duggo, with a lot of bumpsteer.

It appears to me that I will not only be relocating the steering box & idler, but also modifying the draglink.

"Missed it by that much", Sorry ozbilt, sold mine just a week ago! If you post the query on US Muscle you'll get the answer for sure, several Firebird owners on there and stacks of Camaros owners.

have one on the hoist (almost) so can take a pic tomorrow.
What measurement do you need or is a picture enough?
Just reread your post, will take to it with the ruler tomorrow.

Thanks all ..... :like:

I have been trolling the Camaro forums, found some info, but not the measurements.

From what I have read thus far, the first gen Camaro front ends bump steered 3/8" for ever 1" of suspension travel. That is really bad. I had heard of the mods to fix, but need a starting point as this car had already been converted.

I have a 69 RS Camaro here all pulled apart. Its shows it all blasted/painted and re-assembled on the bench but its all just finger tight until its all re-installed

You want exact measurements C2C in "mm", pics or video of the drag link as it all goes back in on Thursday arvo

That is perfect nassi ..... :like:

I will probably end up pulling the steering box back out & relocating all of the steering, as the geometry is all wrong.

To set it up will mean pulling the engine. The front shocks & springs will also come out so I can move the car through it's complete suspension travel. I can then clamp the steering box & idler in differing positions to obtain the minimum amount of bumpsteer. Then make the mounting fixtures.

I drove it today after trying to align it & it was scarey ..... 8O

When I looked at it today it became clear how it could go wrong.
Good luck with it.
