1966 Shelby GT350 Tribute Mustang

Post by Flameman1 »

In 1966, a 66 Shelby GT350 retailed at US$4871 and in 2009 this 66 Fastback was purchased for US$4000 from a wrecking yard in California as per this photo.

We decided to do a Shelby GT350 Tribute Mustang with this one and the challenge was to keep to a budget which meant doing paint myself, 289 anf C4 rebuild in my shed. All new panels were fitted by Kerry at Duggo Ranch which meant every panel was new except for the roof which was in great condition. The owner of the wrecking yard in California sold the Fastback after his son shot out the rear window.

I have just finished spraying 4 coats of clear coat today so am pleased to be getting ready to install parts back on the car. My wife works at a signwriting company so she has offered to assist with installation of the GT350 stripes along the lower sides of the car. I will post some more photos soon. I just ordered a fiberglass dash pod bezel for the tach and oil pressure gauges and a 15inch wooden Moto Lita steering wheel like the Shelby style.

It took my wife 2 hours to install the GT350 stripes while I watched on and gave moral support :like:

And this is the fibreglass Dash Pod Bezel for the tacho and oil pressure gauges that was shipped from Texas yesterday. Not many dealers in the US stock these as they mainly sell thos cheap ABS plastic type that melt and droop in the hot summer sun. I need fiberglass in the heat up here :like: I have to make some minor modifications to my 66 dash to fit this bezel as they were designed for the 65 dashpads.
