Pen & Ink's Heart Transplant

Post by Cameron »

So I wanted to learn more about cars. Had i known that it takes days to scrub off the grime, leave "BP in the gulf of Mexico" sized oil slicks in Dynamics workshop and that i would cut up my pristine office worker hands what are more useto writing on a computer than rounding imperial bolts with metric drill pieces I would have preferred to sh*t out a medium sized aircraft carrier or at very least, be in one of those Saw type scenarios where I am forced to choose which leg i would rather have amputated than open up the bonnet of any car ever again.

Anyway, you are not paying me by the word, so here are the pics:

No Surprises. The Fuel gauge is on empty.

Basically sh*tting oil into a white bucket. If only life was so easy

Its only blurry because I was crying at the time

Dynamic assures me that this is the correct way to get to the oil filter

Bast*rd valve things

I am going to say that working on an engine (and have absolutely NO idea what you are doing) makes you a flat out alcoholic

Green stuff. Dynamic tells me its not oil.

Just fits in the driveway

If only I had known the work that Dynamic would put me through once we got this fella out. I would of welded the bast*rd back in.

Now you see it

Now you dont

Things that smash petrol

Also smashes petrol

Dynamic teaches me/talks to my blank face about oil lines

You will need a beer for what comes next

Dynamic informs me that this is just “carbon” not “carbon fibre”

Just in case you haven’t seen a camshaft before

Lol, at least you have a sence of humour about it...

You might want to check the lift on that 'camshaft' though...

Ha ha well i would like say that it was a small typo calling that thing a camshaft. But i honestly thought it was. As far as i am concerned if you are heavy and cylindrical you are a "cam" if you move up and down you are a piston and everything else is referred to as "shit" or "that shit in there".

No wonder my engine builder hates me.

And Mike i only realised the car was "spotting" when i got home and Pete told me. I also realise that the term spotting isnt a mechanical term and i borrowed it off when my girlfriend. Er. Yes. Tells me no. Anyway the point of it is that i hate that word almost as much as i hate oil leaks and the engine had to come out. I am sorry about your grass. But with the amount of rust that you have i am suprised that you have time for witty comments. :-D Kidding mate. Your car scared the daylights out of me and i commend you for your efforts at getting it back to square one.

But the engine. It was originally going to be just an intake manifold gasket fix. Then pete noticed that the heads where leaking. Then i lost interest because i didnt know what was going on and Pete kept talking and taking things off the car. So fixing the engine was a whole impromptu affair.

I want to fix it up to daily spec with a little bit more poke. New camshaft and carby but nothing too hefty. I dropped off the block, heads and parts to the machine shop which the guys there seem to have the same pace and tenacity of an aging Labrador. So they havent contacted me in over a week. What i am kind of happy about. The most that i have done to my car before this is an oil change and if i am honest - i am enjoying the learning experience. We have known each other for ages but Dynamic has been a great help and talked me through most of the way only requiring the most minimal sexual favors in return.

Nice thread, I like a chuckle in the mornings. You should put a stroker cam in it while you are going. You will need to get some other shit to make it work though. :dance2:
