Rebuilding your mustang
For those that have restored/rebuilt or generally improved their mustangs in anyway (ok that probably covers all of us), then what job have you done which in hindsight you would outsource.
I am about to embark on pulling my car to bits and restoring (1st time I have ever done it) and besides the panel, paint and engine which will go to experts, I am keen to find out what jobs I should consider outsourcing
Cheers

Sandblasting the shell. I saved some money but I would gladly pay next time. It is a dirty, shitty, slow process.

Don't be a nancy boy and have a go and the other bits. There is more than enough help here and on the interweb to get anyone through the rest. Then you know that it is done correctly AND you have the sense of achievement that comes from doing it.

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
The only think I have not rebuild myself is the diff center. Each time I intend to do it myself but I farm it out as the time-v-cost is simply worth going to outside help.
I would suggest you try to do it all yourself. I can understand farming the car painting and final prep for paint. It is the level of practice and experience the professional has that provides the fast excellent result. Having said that you might find it hard to find a good tradesman or the cost to high.
Engine - well build it yourself. Only need a good machine shop.

I will someday think of something clever to say.

Ok Nancy! Two things, Don't get carried away. The engine is sound and doesn't need rebuilding. Secondly, the body is good and has had a recent bare metal respray so only minor dent removal and prep is required.

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
I wouldn't change anything.
I half farmed out the paint prep (had someone come to my place to help) and farmed out paint to Steve.
Prior to that, anything I got stuck on, Kerry was generous enough to help out and I've met some great people doing it the way I did.

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
Thanks for the tips, I am just getting a few ideas.
I have heard the headliner is a pain to install..... but most of the other interior stuff just requires patience, or a good mustang mechanic who lives nearby. I also think installing the windows in the door might be painful, from what I have researched

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
Actually good point... I would probably outsource the headliner next time.
Mine is OK, but far from perfect.

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
Yep outsource the headliner to you local mustang mechanic. If, you've never done it before, it's best to seek a pro.

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
I have outsourced installing vinyl top on my Cougar. I prefer to do headliner myself as in the long passed a supposed pro really stuffed it up and would not fix it. I had to redo it myself. Having said that if you can find a good pro then using one for various jobs is not a bad choice at all. Finding a good pro if sometimes difficult (particually if not using this forum).

Re: Rebuilding your mustang
I tend to outsource everything (inc panel work) as I am a lazy bastard ..... ![Get me coat :coat:](./images/smilies/getmecoat.gif)
