65 Mustang with 68 shock towers...

Post by tarafied1 »

goldscode reminded me (on another forum) that I was still a member here and asked if I shared my current project. So I'm back!
Maybe some will recall I am from the States. I have had my 67 for 24+ years. But I have had a few other projects.
This one is a 65 Mustang that I originally bought this 65 as a parts car for a 64 Falcon but I sold the Falcon. So I decided to fix this Mustang up. It was wrecked and rusty in the front end. I helped a buddy put a 68 Fastback roof on a 67 coupe and he gave me the front clip off the 68. So I decided to put it on the 65.
the 64 Falcon

well I cut up the front of the 65 with intent to replace the stock parts, but then I remembered my buddy had the 68 that we cut the roof off of. So I cut the front off too!

the 68 has a wider track than the 65 so I will need to use the 68 suspension. The doner car was missing most of the parts but I gathered up pretty much everything I need.
I have the 68 UCA, LCA, strut rods, drag link, gear box and innner/outer tie rods. I am also using a late 67 Mustang column (rag joint) with the 68 gear box. I am putting the 65 top part of the column on the 67 coulumn so I can use a 65 steering wheel and turn signal switch

the 65 was missing the left front fender, hood, grille, headlight buckets, gravel pan/valence, etc. Everything except the right front fender.
I was able to find most of the front end from another forum member that was the same color.
I am planning to keep the "patina" and build this as a ratty Stang so this worked out pretty well

I am replacing the aprons with repop stuff and they need a little tweaking/trimming to fit the 68 towers
