Forum enhancement suggestions

Post by mikes68 »

Just creating another thread as a placeholder for suggestions...

Hybrid - any chance of having the Forum header and sidebar menus (left and right) setup in some framesets / frames?

Kinda like what I have done with the MOCWA site so that the content scrolls but the stuff that you may want to see all the time freezes... -->> MOCWA

To get this website using frames is not really an option.. massive task.
Most websites don't use frames any more because of this.

There are many other reasons too.

Interesting read thanks Hybrid. One point I would make though (not to try and convince you to frameset this site though) is that the arguments put forward in that article I would not expect to be significant reasons for a site like this.

Ie

Bookmarking - possibly not so relevent here but may be shot down as that is exactly what I am trying to do now with the "today's posts" issue in the other thread

Search Engines - Would it really matter on the content for all the web crawlers to go through this site as opposed to keywords in the meta content

Target Audience (www) - we do have a specific target audience that would know where this site is although admittedly may lose some of our "newby" target audience if not discovered in thier broad internet searches...

Anyways... just a thought and thanks for the response.

mike: I should also mention that I did not "design" this website. It's a Content Management System http://dragonflycms.org/ which I have templated.

I'm by no means a web designer... my artistic abilities are limited to stick figures. I'm a techie, so I can sort out backend issues, but I can't make a website look good!

If you have a look at two of my other dragonfly websites, I'm sure you'll see the similarities:

Cool... not unlike myself - far from being a web designer :Nerd:

Easier than having a link in the main menu on the left?

What would you suggest?

Wow.. I can't say I have ever used that function on any forum.

There is an image gallery where each member can have their own album. Will that do the trick, or did you have something else in mind?

Beeeyewwwdifull... the only thing I ever used also. Just wanted to see all current posts across all topics for the last 24 hrs or so - rarely went more than 9 hrs without getting a fix

hybrid, is there any way we can save posts like in a favourites section for example. Some good stuff on here now and I want to save the post for later reference
