Sump for Dart SHP block
Hi,
So I started my engine build today. Got the shot block on the engine stand, and got the oil pump, oil pickup, cam, and timing gear installed.
The first problem I've found is the Procomp sump I've bought doesn't clear the 4 bolt mains. It appears to be a stock sump modified to give an extra litre capacity.
Is it worth taking this sump to a panel shop and get it massaged to fit or can someone recommend a sump that will fit without modification? It is to go in a 67 stang.

Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
You really want a baffled sump, on it anyway, have a look what Canton or Millidon etc make. You just need a front sump for early mustangs. If the sump you have has a crank scraper this maybe l be the issue you'll need to trim. You'll need the matching pick up.

Excellent - build thread please.
I have used a Canton Sump on my personal car and for my last few builds (and so has SP). It is the way I would personally go. There are alternative brands one of which was suggested by SP.

I will someday think of something clever to say.
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
Canton are value for money for sure.
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
I went with Canton also. Please don't use Procomp anything.
"The simple answer is, even if I have decided I still don't know what to do."

Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
The thinking was "All it has to do is hold oil, how can they get that wrong?"cage wrote:I went with Canton also. Please don't use Procomp anything.
Well, they did!!
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
I've got a Milodon one here which looks kind of like a stock one but a bit deeper. It belongs to Rodney, pretty sure you could have it for a few $ if it works for you
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
Let me know the model and the $ please?
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
No idea the model come by and have look its at Wynnum Ill take a picture perhaps tomorrow, we will have to ask Rod what he wants for it, nominal $ I think. Almost new.lukep6470 wrote:Let me know the model and the $ please?
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
I just got one made from Russell oil pans. Its a race sump with hinged doors and all to suit a 4 bolt main. Mines 4 x 5 mains, iirc yours will only be a 3 x 5 mains.
It cost 850.

Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
My rocker covers are Procomp... no problems!
The sump in my 347 is a Kevco 101... holds the oil just fine.

We'll I just picked up the worlds most expensive RTS sump. I was driving through The Gabba when the storm hit. Every panel on my 67 is smashed ![Sad :-(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
Well at least you can buy them new, I suppose.
Re: Sump for Dart SHP block
I was on the road yesterday when the storm hit as well. It was a doosy. I saw a number trees come down. Two cars got it. One lost a rear window. Hale smashing onto the car - I did not have a close look yet at the damage. In my case the hale was not that large though you would think it was based on the sound it made hitting the car. I was thinking at the time my mustang being thicker panels would hold up better - not that I would take it out in that weather by choice - well I feel for you. Really do. Your car is a nice example. Sorry to hear it is covered in Hale damage. It is a shame.lukep6470 wrote:We'll I just picked up the worlds most expensive RTS sump. I was driving through The Gabba when the storm hit.
