Electric Life window regulators and One Piece Glass

Post by Nick68 »

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody had any information on the best plan of attack to fit the One Piece Products windows to a 68 mustang using the electric life window reg.

Steve - I believe you may have a similar setup - not sure if anybody else has done this.

I have sent these questions to OPP - but so far no response (followed up a couple of times)

The electric life window regulator I am using is.

http://electric-life.com/shopexd.asp?id=1068
Product Code: FD40-K

My issues are:

1) the front vertical guide fouls the regulator itself. With some grinding, bending and fettleing I think I can get it close - but I don't think it will be perfect. Did other people have this issue - and any suggestions.

2) OPP supplied the incorrect hardware kit. I have 1 inch rollers for a 7/8 inch channel (in fact the rollers / slides they show in the instruction picks are squared off - mine are round). Anyway is there some where locally I can buy rollers? Furthermore the expression rollers is a bit of a stretch - they supply a nylon bush pressed over a rounded end stud. This seem very cheap an nasty - did anybody else find a local source of actual roller bearings and swap them out?

If anybody has any experience to share it would be welcome.

Thanks
Nick

I think I remember Steve saying he didn't get much help from the manufacturer and ended up going it alone in the end.

He hated it that much he refused to do mine if I bought some. Result, I didn't buy them.

They are a c@*t of a thing & I would cut my arm off before I bought another set. We ended up refabbing most of it. Cage is correct, I told him if he bought a set they would be out on the road along with his car. The suppliers of the kit I wouldn't feed. Useless is too kind.

Steve, was the problem with the one piece window or the window reg?

A combination of both. I think with standard windup regs they would be workable.

Done one side, one more tomorrow.

For a bolt in kit it needs a hack saw, tap, angler grinder, die grinder, drill and welder. You will also need to go and get a useful set of fasteners.

But it can be made to work!!!!

It is a good idea to prefit your upper glass seal channel & rubber before paint. Then you can adjust the glass so it seals & also more importantly doesnt foul the body. Just dont fit the weatherstrips on the door itself. We learnt this the hard way on mine. There is a nasty chip that will need fixing on the right hand side, the glass was up too far & caught the edge of the roof. If I had drip rails it would have been less of a pain in the arse, but thats price of being fully sick I suppose.

Yes & if you had chosen Dongguan Dusk as the colour, you could have touched it up with a jar of nail polish ....... ;)
