I know, you all like pics ......

A good friend of mine owned a V6 Capri back in the day & now he has reached a spot in his life where he can have a few toys, he came across not one, but 2 x MK1 Capri's in very average condition.

It was decided (after much discussion over breakfast each Thursday morning in Camden) that the 1st one would be a V6 with some nice mods & the second a clone of a Perana, the South African 302 V8 beast.

So we begin with the V6. Keep in mind that almost nothing is available new for these cars, everything is used & usually need a lot of love before it becomes worthy of using.

Another thing, most of this happened last year, before & after I broke my arm ...... :$

Engine bay had been molested by cutting up to fit a larger radiator, they made a mess. Few other issues, V6 braces were missing, battery cradle was modified & damaged .........

Bonnet lock panel (slam panel) was cactus so a "better" one was purchased, repaired & fitted .....

Image

Radiator support repaired ......

Along with the battery support .....

V6 braces added ......

Cross member needed some lovin .......

Image

Headlight supports (that were missing part of) were fabbed & fitted .....

Along with the edges of the lower front apron panel ......

Yep & that is English Pounds + shipping ....... 8O

He found another site (Germany I think) that had some bits he needed for the Perana as the shell that will become that car had enormous fiberglass flares & the wheel arches had been hacked away. The panels that arrived were very nice .....

I will grab some pics of them tomorrow (after our Thursday breakfast  ) as I will be up at his shed ...... :like:

Thats good news. I it is nice to see things being reproduced for these lovely little classics.

Here is a replica that runs here in Targa.

Yes a lot of mods, many are a bit of a sore point as to there legality
Having said that, a car that goes that hard is always going to catch a bit of criticism from some people.

Looking forward to this thread Kerry. As discussed my son is very keen on a MK1 Capri for street and to get into some amateur racing. Not cheap though.

These Capri's are close to my heart.
I built my V8 Capri a very long time ago - decided to build it because I could not afford a mustang. Hence why I have one now later in life. Any way, I built it for the track though it was 100% legal in NSW. It was a difficult process getting it through the pits at the time but I succeeded eventually.

Any way, I had it for 15 years though I regretfully sold it when I needed deposit money for my first home. Good choice really but still miss the car. I sold it to Andrew Medecki (who is a known motor sport driver) where he and his son raced it in Targa events. I know they repainted it and I know it was crashed at least once as I saw the video. I assume it was recovered and repaired.

I am enjoying your build thread as the memories flood back. I must admit I also modified the engine bay significantly to fit the V8, 5 speed and large radiator twin fans etc. Parts were hard to get 25 years ago. I still have a few in the garage. Great times.

Thanks for posting the updates.

Was Medecki sponsored by 'Sleepyhead Bedding? How long ago was that?

How long was what?

When I sold it to him or his sons crash in my old car?

Here is the local news: I sold it to him in Port Macquarie as I was working there at the time.

http://www.portnews.com.au/story/225839 ... ash-video/

I can only assume the car is my old one. I would know for sure if I could get close to it. I do know he has changed it a fair bit from as it was as I handed the keys over. Time has also passed - I would have sold it to him approximately 15 - 20 years a go.

I think about it quite often. I would like to though as I said my Mustang has been built in a similar way. I have a 5 speed, hot 302 (though the Capri was a 289), both have 4 wheel disks and both are/were a lot of fun to drive. I did not add a full cage as the Capri had and I kept the 8 inch diff while I installed a 9 inch in the Capri. I built my own complete wiring loom from scratch for the Capri while I have only extended my mustangs loom for the extras such as EFI (while I had a 750DP on the Capri). I am not 100% sure I should build another Capri though the thought does appeal. I enjoy building cars as a hobby, I tend to go slowly on my own stuff. I like to potter around. I do help others before doing my own in general. I know I have future projects in me maybe follow your path Nassi.
