Window repair

Post by xpconnor »

Hi all

I am getting closer to doing a test install of all the components into my repop doors and I have to put my windows back together. I did see it written about on here ages ago but can't find it now in regards to what people do to fit the door glass back into the steel window channel an 65/66 cars. Is there a repro seal I can use or do I have to improvise with some sikaflex or the like?

What you need is "uncured" rubber strip. I would imagine a decent Mustang parts place would carry it. You could even try Clark Rubber, it is probably 30mm wide & 1mm thick.

This is Jeff Ford on Autorestomod doing what you asked about ..........

Thanks for the vid. I have to order some new latches and a couple of other bits and pieces for the doors so I will see if my parts guy has some of the strips.

That rubber strip is available at "rare spares".
Use kerosene to moisten it and be warned, its one of the messiest jobs you will tackle on your resto. An extra pair of hands is a help too.

Kerry loves a good door glass install. What did we discuss last Saturday? Something about dropping them off at the ranch & collecting your $50.00 thank you prize?

Those pics will help. Thanks Kerry.

Not really looking forward to doing this as I think it will be a PITA for a first timer. I am sure by the time the doors are painted and I have to do it all again i will have forgotten how the hell I did it the first time anyway.

Just bringing an old thread back too life.

Nassi do you know what rare spares call the rubber stripping for the window. Our local autobarn is a rare spares distributor but when I went I there today they weren't sure what I wanted and couldn't find it on the rare spares website. I also had a look on the website and can't find it either so I might just ring rare spares tomorrow and ask if they have it but would be easier if I know what to call it. Failing that I will try Clark rubber and if that is still a miss I might have to get it in from the U.S.

Have seen it called strip seal and setting tape. Comes in various thicknesses. IIRC 1/16" works for Mustang window glass.

I may have a spare roll, or part of one. How much do you need?
