Hey Guys,

my paint above the chrome rain gutters on both sides is cracking and bubbling.

Cheers

Sounds like a bit of rust underneath...

Agree with Pete (do not tell any one though), the bubbling would be rust i assume. Probably started by the cracking or more correctly the previous repair. Do not just get a touch up paint person, sort it out now before it gets bad.

If your lucky it could just be that the person that prepped for paint just didnt concentrate much effort in that area and the paint just hasnt keyed in properly to the surface that also has sealer on it.

Isn't there a sealer type material in the rain gutters that eventually dries, shrinks and cracks regardless of rust?

Hey Nuts,

how soon are you getting it done ???
the cracks are getting bigger and I want to get them fixed before more damage occurs.

Just got back from Woden. There was a very nice bright yellow pony with large chrome rims. had NSW plates and looked like the same year as Nuts blue machine
While the rims did not grab me - the total package turned a few heads.

Yes it may dry, shrink and crack but if it bubbles it is often due to rust. The dry cracked sealer allows the moisture in and then sort of holds it there (capillary action).

Mine needs a touch up atm, after recent body work. Have to do a formal in 6 weeks, can't get full respray before then so will have to make do with a touch up. Will need to chat about who you are using, I may also need them.

Mate, pretty sure the problem with yours is the lack of adhesion between the primer and the colour coat. there's no clear on it but as I suggested, it may need to be stripped back to fix it properly.

As for you young Stanglover, your car is painted some crappy yellow colour and will just have to wait. Actually a touch on yours would be pretty simple as it is acrylic with no clear. Even you could do it....... Well maybe not....

I might have a chat to the guy who did the pin striping. I have seen the result of his paint job on his motor cycle and was suitably impressed.

I will have a chat and see what happens

Hey Nuts,

You still intending to go to Cooma for the show ???
If you are I will need to pay before Friday
probably just display the car and not enter the judging side of things.
