Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
I want to put speakers in the rear parcel shelf.
Man at the speaker shop mentioned that they void ADR's.
Does this apply to these old clunkers? Being they don't have a Aussie compliance plate they don't conform anyway (Yes?/No?)

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
What ADR would be broken?
There actually should be room without cutting anything.
I've got them in mine.

Apparently you are altering a structural part of the vehicle, which will make it weaken, fail, bend in half, crash and kill countless people.
I'm doing possibly a dodgy stealth setup- wanted to put 6x9's and a subwoofer, both in proper sound boxes up under the shelf. There are some holes there but not 6x9 or 10" sizes.
Idea in theory is that the boxes will hang down under inside the boot and I cut holes in the shelf for the speakers to sit under therefore letting all the noise through.
So hold the boxes up under the shelf by brackets and then keep the felt covering over them so it looks stock. Don't particularly care for the looks of the boxes and hoping the angle of the window will bounce the tunes forwards.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
Maybe the later cars were different.
My car had decent sized holes either side of center, and I'm sure my rear 6x9's went in without any mods to the shelf.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
Do they sound any good? The bloke at Lifestyle at north parra tells me I must have boxes otherwise the car audio world will laugh at me till I cry, due to poor sounds
Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
They sound fine to me, but it depends what you want.
We have the soundtrack of a Mustang that the ricers just can't compete with, so they have a loud stereo.
I only have a single amp on the 6x9's. My 6" speakers at the front don't have an amp, but I set the bias slightly to the front to balance out the sound.
Is there a shitload of bass? Nope... but I got over that about 15 years ago really.
Good audio quality is a bit of a misnomer in a car. It's really not designed for it. You just make it terribly loud to make up for the poor acoustics.
I don't know who the "car audio world" is, but the stereo in my car is for me, so they can f off.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
Interesting question;
1) The cars are pre ADRs so it does not apply.
2) ADRs are really no more - given we do not build cars here any longer.
3) Most parcel shelves (all that I have looked at) have holes for speakers (just as Hybrid had said).
4) Who would want to drown out the magic sounds that emanate from the engine anyway....![Poke :poke:](./images/smilies/poking.gif)

Here's my 66 tray:

No issues fitting speakers there.

Well the 70 are different. Still have large centre hole but the outers are smaller.

Why do I want noise? On a stinking hot Sydney day I want the air on and some sounds whilst cruising. With drop pipes under the diff, the engine tunes won't be drowned out easily.
I think you'll find that ADR rules are the reason new Stangs are taking a year to get, they would need to be run down the line as a batch for all the crap Australia requires that the rest of the world does not.
I'd add a picture but for some reason I'm can't upload a jpg in either firefox or explorer.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
Do you get some kind of error?
I prefer not using the "attachment" feature of the forum - uploading to photobucket and just linking here is easier and the picture displays inline instead of having to open it separately.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
No error, it just does nuthink.
Will do the photobucket thing

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
Ahh I see.. yeah unless you wanted to turn the speakers sideways.. which would look silly.
You could probably get some 6x9 spacers that would let the speakers clear those holes.
They'd probably go in further than you think.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
That doesn't look as weird as I thought it would.
I wouldn't have an issue going that way if it was my only option.

Re: Rear parcel shelf & ADR's
It looks fine to me going sideways.
As far as new mustang and ADRs, it needed to comply with European rules which is what, as I understand it, we are switching to for future new vehicular compliance rules.
