Repairing/reinforcing door cards or panels

If you've been around old cars long enough, you would have come across door cards where the clips have pulled out.
This happened to mine from not using a proper tool to remove them from the door.

In any case, from now on I will reinforce every door panel I ever use, even if it's brand new.
If your door cards are in good condition, you can just use some thin super glue (get the model plane stuff) around the holes for the clips. It will soak in to the door card and go very hard making them much stronger.

If you've had some of the clips pull out, or the card has been damaged, you will probably have to use fibreglass.
I just finished my second door card. The first one went back on a treat and is a buttload (metric, not imperial) stronger.

I used fibreglass mat for the ones that were damaged, and just coated the good ones with the resin to give them more strength.

Why do you keep taking them off?? Just leave them alone and you will never have a problem!!

They have been like that for ages and I'm only just fixing. I had them on and off a bit when building the car. Can't remember why.

In any case, it only takes one stuff up and they are toast.

I still find it difficult on 65/66 pony door trims even with the tools.

Yeah mine are pony as well. The thickness can make it hard to pinpoint the right spot to use the tool sometimes.

Yep similar to mine. Mine also doubles as a wiper arm removal tool ....

Thanks for the the Tip Hybrid i will definitely at least putting some glue on mine, they are on for the test fit atm "about 4 years ago" and i was concerned then about the amount of tearing then as i was fitting the clips. I only have a Toyota supplied window winder and trim tool from the apprenticeship days i found was only good for plastic door trim, so i think i will invest in one of them tools.
