Whats the distance between Rad & pump pulley on a 67

Post by Shaunp »

Looking at Fan options, so need someone to measure the distance between the Rad and pump pulley face for a 67-68 small block. Want to make sure these fans I'm keen on will fit before I pull the trigger

To many factors, radiator thickness, where it is mounted, engine position, type of water pump (long or short), pulleys used, V belt or Serpentine, how many rows of belts etc.
I will someday think of something clever to say.

So then maybe from the Rad support to the pump, on a standard type set up. Or I'll just wait a few weeks till I drop the engine in. Those fans are 4.5" deep with shroud. I'm running 3 428 rad, which basically is as big as the tanks. as the shroud will mount to the side bands.

I cannot remember is radiator support cut out so the 1 inch push back for radiator support is removed?

Any way, 4.3 inch is wide though if it is the bulbous ends of the motors then they can usually be wider as they sit in space on the sides passed the water pump etc. Having said that I think your going to be pushing for space.

It clam shell mounts, so I guess it sits 10 mm ?behind the the top rail of the support due the clamp and rubber mount I'll have to look. could maybe look at John's vert it has the same set up., 24x16 3 core.

So does his 65. Maybe gbx78 (or even Cage) can pipe in as he would likely know how much space he has had as he has tried a few different arrangements.

I did the same on Astros car, but its at the paint shop now, and I'm not sure the support is in the same place on a 65

4.5" doesn't seem like that much. I'd be surprised if it wouldn't fit, but best to measure.
Nice looking setup though.

I'm just using a single big fan with no fancy shroud. It stood up to Saturday's heat (36 degrees) no problem. This is with the 347 back in the car. I have a 70 degree thermo switch plumbed in at the drain plug using a brass adapter. Simplest wiring ever.

I really want to use this set up if I can fit it in, it may seem over the top, but I think its a nice piece, moves lots of air and looks pretty professional. The 4.5 would be at the fan motor which wont be in line with the pump, I think it will be ok but just want to be sure.

Yeah my previous dual fan setup had plenty of room. New single setup not so much, but still fits.

The BF single fan setups are monsters.

Measure my car or Greenies as I believe the length of the engine bay is the same and width is shock tower differences.

I know it is a different engine but the rads are the same I understand. Here is a link to some measurements that may be useful for you: http://www.mustangtech.com.au/Forums/vi ... html#99011

John Greene measured his 68 for me and its 4.5" so given the twin fans are off set there should be plenty of room.

I wrote an insightful piece around derale and the dual power pack figures are incorrect but i got kicked out and lost my novel. I will type it again later after work
