Years in the making....

Thought its time to introduce our 67 convertible project. Although the project itself is a year on it began 19 years ago when I drove my first 66 GT coupe as a first year apprentice. Well my dreams finally eventuated at the start of 2016 when I came across what looked to be a too good to be true 67 convertible, with a quick nudge from wifey to bid it was ours. The car was in Adelaide which isnt exactly down the road and after a week or contemplating to fly down I decided to buy it sight unseen, my theory being even if its a total writeoff we still would be able to get our money back being a convertible.

Well turns out if its too good to be true then it usually is. After several goes at getting it transported back to Canberra it arrived and when I finally saw our beloved car it wasnt the project I had initially had in mind. The guy said there was a little rust in the usual spots but all the chassis rails were good and it would be an easy restoration. Well as the pictures show it was anything but an easy restoration, jumping under the car there was not a chassis rail in the car that didnt need replacing, in fact trying to find something structural to launch an attack from was near impossible.

After the initial shock had been and gone a mate of mine said something that stuck with me, he said 'you're bringing a car that would have gone to the scrap heap back to life' and with that the project got some legs. We are a year in and I am ambitiously setting myself a target of next March to have the mustang ready.

I will add some pics from the past year to show where it has come from.

Good to see another Capital car in the making. If you need a hand (not with wiring) let me know as there are some really good people around here who if they do not know themselves know the people that will.

We are in Woden.
Cheers
Jacko

So with a bit of a time lapse this is how it sits now a year on. Have to finish welding in the wheel arches and boot hinge supports then onto the rear quarters.

A visit to the Jacksons today and full of inspiration. Thanks guys :like:

Welcom to The Forum..That's some serious work Buddy your doing.. Well done. Welcome to the world of Mustang ownership. Word of Warning though. I believe the rust was probably caused by being parked close to a Holdon! Make sure you de-contaminate yourself after visiting Jacko's place!

Excellent another project thread . Your a brave man tackling that car, it will be interesting to see the direction you go with the build. Are you thinking original or more resto mod?

Without matching numbers I decided to modify it a little. I have this sitting beside the car waiting

Being a trans mechanic by trade it's the body work that has been the biggest challenge for me but it's coming along
