tyre ruptured -picture included

Post by 67er »

Sumitomo. Had it for 3 or so years. 225/60/15. Still plenty of tread there too. Cant see a puncture but can see plenty of tearing. I was doing 80km inside the lane cove tunnel and it started to wobble the car, more and more. Got to give credit to the response time of the flatbed Roads Dept showing up.....free service too.

If there is any good news out of this, it would be that it was a rear and not a steer tyre.

Having a steer blow would have been nasty in the narrow driving lanes of Sydney.

What inflation do you run? Looks to be an under inflation result.

Had similar with 4WD tyres out bush when you cannot easily hear feel under inflation and it overheats and self destructs.

Way too low for high performance tyres. NSW Highway Patrol cars run 40 - 44 lbs depending on the car. I run 40, in the AU XR6 I have, on small runs and 42 if driving interstate.

max is 35psi on these tyres, I thought.

So the 40-44psi is for what max inflation range?

32 should've been fine, I had a Continental develop an egg in the wall and it blew on the highway. Went of like a gun and I thought the engine had let go.

Frikin AMG with no spare, only a compressor and container of goo.

Max is written on the side of the tyre. My AU is Max 50psi.

I know you said you have had it three years or so, but what is the actual manufacturing date?
