how not to assemble an engine

pulling down my spare clevo to build look what killed the motor done by prev owner, seems to be bakerlite type substance all in the sump where would it have come from

only on the conrods the mains were factory bearings and the block is in great shape

maybe valve stem seals or coated timing gear. Those cup type stem seals go hard as thats what it looks like.

some of it was semi transparant like light brown one large piece looked like the end of a tooth dont know how it passed the filter though

Least of your worries. Found all sorts of things in sumps over the years. From antenna's to toys and everything in between. Best find was some tools. two sockets 12mm and 14mm and a 6" extension in a Honda 1200 sump. Not much room for anything else but they were all living happily together.

Timing gear, and then if the filter blocks up, the internal bypass valve will open to maintain oil pressure with unfiltered oil and you are toast.

that sounds right the timing gear in it was a new looking double row so yeah
