Wondering what the go is for how permanent you make the attachment of the rear valance. Having spent a fair bit of time gapping it just right, I want to get the final fitting right too.
As we know it’s got a row of self tapping screws up top and a wee bolt on each lower side. So I was just going to paint it and attach it with a bead of silicon under the top lip, so it can be removed for repairs etc, without too much drama.
However I’ve noticed quite a few I’ve seen seem to have painted the valance once fitted, and the top seam looks to be all sealed up with some sort of mastic or whatever.
So what’s the go? Removable or not?

removable I reckon
Re: Rear valance attachment
Ta Shaun,
Yup I can’t see why you’d bugger up any future jobs by sticking it on and painting over the mastic. But I guess some shops just do that to speed the final paint and assembly up. No idea what Ford did, the body assembly book doesn’t say much...
Perhaps I’ll stick a little self adhesive rubber strip on the back to stop rubs and rattles.

My old one is here I'll look.
Re: Rear valance attachment
No mastic. Any mastic you see on the outside would have been applied by a repair shop.
They were fitted after prime coat in the factory and painted with the main shell (inc doors, trunk and quarter extensions).
All other panels were painted separate.

Thanks OZ, that's what I guessed. Will do the same. Might just put some thin rubber tape on the back of the top edge.ozbilt wrote:No mastic. Any mastic you see on the outside would have been applied by a repair shop.
