66 Convertible front roof seal question to stop leaks

This are some pics of the front trim and rubber on my 66 convertible and it leaks, obviously because the seal is under the vinyl and the po never trimmed the vinyl back?

Two questions:
1. Do I just trim the excess off the vinyl?
2. Is that the right seal or is there meant to be a thicker one there? The seal feels fairly soft still and has some flex.

I know I can tighten the lock-down clamps but I don't want to do them much tighter as they are already pretty tight. Once I trim the vinyl, I can tighten them up again.

Scollist posted some video links on the Mustang forum that help but I think I'll have to take it to an upholsterer to finish.

Have you had the stainless moulds off the windscreen?

The two large top moulds are filled with sealer from the factory and I have fixed convertibles that never had it reinstalled. Water comes up the windshield, then under the moulding and ito your lap.

Worthwhile pulling them to check. It will take nealy a kilo of caulking compound with some butyl mastic windscreen sealer to finish it off.
